If you are looking for a saxophone for your child to start on, the alto saxophone is probably your best bet. It doesn't take quite as much air as the tenor saxophone, and distance between keys is shorter than that of the larger saxophones. The techniques and fingering learned on the alto saxophone is easily transferred to other saxophones if you or your child decides to change at a later date.
