How Do You Transcribe Music For An Alto Saxophone?
I play the Alto Saxophone and the piano and I was just wondering how many steps down or up for piano music to saxophone music.

Answer:

When an Eb Alto Sax plays a "C", it produces the same pitch as a concert "Eb". So, to transpose piano music (concert key) to play it on an alto sax, just shift all of the notes three half-steps down. Same applies to the key signature. For example, when the piano plays an F major scale, the alto will have to play a D major scale to match the piano's pitch.
