Questions and Answers
- Question:
- Jupiter JAS- 567 GL Alto Saxophone?
I am looking for the jupiter saxophone at a cheap price to pay, I was wondering wether anyone knows somewhere where I can get one for under £300. Otherwise any other well know brand of alto sax which is under £300. Thanks - Answer:
- You can buy a brand new 567 standard model for a touch over £320 so unless you specificlly want that model it's a good buy. A HUGE word of warning, buying a second hand Sax is like running through a minefield especially on sites like Ebay. It's such a complex instrument that unless you know what your looking for it can hide a whole load of problems. Some reasonable to repair, some expensive and some can't be sorted no matter how much money you throw at it. Jupiter make reasonable instruments so your on the right track, some manufacturers have different models made in different countries and they're not all good, it's down to the individual model. If you want to go second hand then try asking your local sax tutors, many take it the instrument and get fed up so there's lots of spoilt kids with some almost new Altos just sat there. It's worth getting a used one serviced and checked over, just to make sure it's working ok as that will ensure your not trying to compensate for a fault. Most of all, stick with it and practise, practise, practise. You'll initially feel good and then might go through a low patch, it's when you get through this (which is when the spoilt kids bail out) that you really start to learn properly, and then you'll be hooked for life. This site is a good start: http://www.sax.co.uk/index2.html If your not sure you will stick to it then hire one. Read this guide:http://www.saxophone.org/buyersguide/buyers.html And this:http://www.sax.co.uk/index2.html The single best peice of advice i can give you is to get yourself a tutor from day one, you'll avoid bad habits and you'll learn 10 times quicker.
- Question:
- How to tell what kind of Jupiter alto sax I have?
I recently dug up a Jupiter alto saxophone I used to play in middle school. I want to sell it since I'm living on my own now, but don't know how to tell what kind of Jupiter sax it is, so I can find prices online. Any help would be awesome. Thank you! - Answer:
- Not sure how good it is, and I doubt that it is this good, but very good instruments are sometimes individually numbered. If you could find a number you could probably look it up on their site.
- Question:
- How much would it cost to service a 15 year old Jupiter 769 alto saxophone?
Hi im looking to buy a second hand black Jupiter 769 alto saxophone for $600 (is that a good price?) but it is 15 year old. It has not been played for that long (just sitting in the closet for many years) and i was wondering how much it would cost to service/tune it if i did end up buying it. It might need new pads and/or springs...? Also, would that be a good saxophone for a beginner? (ive played for 1 yr) Many thanks! :) - Answer:
- I just had some repairs done on a 25-year old tenor sax. They replaced several pads and re-glued others and adjusted the keys and springs. The total cost of the repairs was $120. A full overhaul would have been considerably more expensive. Is it a local seller, or are you buying this on eBay? If it is someone local, I would ask them if you could bring the saxophone to a repair shop for an estimate so that you have a true idea of the cost.
- Question:
- How bad are Jupiter alto saxophones?
So I want to play the sax and I ccurrently play the trumpet. I'm being given a sax and it's a Jupiter. Now I know this is not a good brand, but how bad is it really? Any tips for playing with a Jupiter? I can't buy one on my own so I figured It's better than nothing and if I really want to play the sax I have to do what I can. So how bad is it REALLY? - Answer:
- if the sax is free, hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. if you're just learning the sax, you should be just fine. i always notice a sound difference between horns, and if the sax players around you sound as good or worse than you, then you're ok. if it's pretty new and the pads are good, it'll hold your notes well.
